Seal.

I was lucky enough to be guided around the San Juan Islands in a kayak by a really great and knowledgable friend. Although we spent a lot of time paddling in the channels of the islands our kayak did face out to open ocean briefly and I’ll just say… it was mighty intimidating. I’m not a fan of open water so while I jokingly said we should probably just go for it and make our way over to Canada, I was happy we pointed the kayak back towards the islands and continued on our way. Just as the adrenaline was quieting down we turned our kayak around a corner and found a beautiful dark reflective cove just out of the wind and sun. I couldn’t have been happier when I realized there were a few personable seals seemingly waiting for their photo op of the day and luckily I had just gotten a handle on how to get my camera quickly out of the kayaks spray skirt.
